Recording Formats at Studio Mozart

At Studio Mozart, the format isn't an afterthought — it's part of the sound. With 40+ years behind the console, including work on Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated records, we've built a room that lets you choose the exact signal path your music deserves, rather than forcing every project through the same pipeline. Our analog chain runs through a hand-recapped and modified ("Musgraved") Neve VR console, paired with world class, as well as custom DIY microphones and mic preamps built in-house, delivering the harmonic saturation, natural compression, and glue that only real iron and tape can give. For those who want that same tape warmth without giving up modern flexibility, we offer CLASP (Closed-Loop Analog Signal Processing), recording simultaneously to analog tape and Pro Tools in a real-time closed loop, so you get the sound of tape with the editing, recall, and non-destructive workflow of a DAW. When speed and precision matter most, our Digital PCM (WAV) chain delivers clean, high-resolution tracking at the sample rates and bit depths professional releases demand — the reliable backbone of any modern session. And for the closest thing to analog fidelity in the digital domain, we track DSD Multitrack, whose single-bit, ultra-high-sample-rate architecture captures an exceptionally natural, open sound, ideal for acoustic ensembles, orchestral dates, and audiophile releases. Whether you're chasing vintage warmth, hybrid flexibility, rock-solid digital reliability, or the pristine detail of DSD, Studio Mozart has the format — and the engineering experience — to get it right.

Analog Recording tape machine Studer A827 with CLASP System

Pure Analog

Recording

Tape has a sound you can't fake in a plugin. Our analog chain runs through a hand-recapped and modified ("Musgraved") Neve VR console, paired with custom DIY microphones and mic preamps built in-house. Tracking runs on a Studer 827 24-track 2" tape machine as well as an MCI JH-24, with interchangeable 24 and 26-track 2" headstocks. For mixdown, we go direct to analog on a Studer A-80 MK-IV, with available 1/2" and 1/4" headstocks, and for those who want that unmistakable vintage character, we also have an amazing-sounding Revox A-77 1/4" machine. If you want the harmonic saturation, the natural compression, and the glue that only real iron and tape can deliver, this is the room for it.

Clasp Recording

CLASP gives you the best of both worlds: audio is recorded to analog tape and simultaneously monitored and manipulated through Pro Tools in real time, with the tape machine locked in a closed loop to the DAW. Conversion runs through Prism Audio and Merging Technologies interfaces, ensuring the link between tape and DAW is as transparent and accurate as possible. You get the warmth and compression of analog tape with the editing flexibility, recall, and non-destructive workflow of a modern digital session — no compromise required.

Digital PCM

(WAV)

Reliable, precise, and the industry standard for a reason. Our PCM digital recording chain runs through Prism Audio and Merging Technologies converters, (64ch. I/O) delivering clean, high-resolution tracking at the sample rates and bit depths professional releases demand — the dependable backbone for sessions where speed, editability, and recall matter most.

DSD Multitrack

For engineers and artists chasing the closest thing to analog fidelity in the digital domain, we offer DSD (Direct Stream Digital) multitrack recording via Merging Technologies interface, capturing up to 40 channels of DSD simultaneously through the latest Pyramix software. DSD's single-bit, ultra-high-sample-rate architecture captures an extraordinarily natural, open sound — ideal for acoustic ensembles, orchestral dates, and audiophile releases.

Stereo Mixing

Mixing at Studio Mozart is just as flexible as tracking. We offer full in-the-box mixing for clients who want speed, total recall, and a streamlined workflow, as well as hybrid mixing that routes the session through our recapped and modified Neve VR console and outboard gear alongside the box, blending the depth, punch, and character of analog summing and processing with the precision of a digital session. Whichever route fits the project, the mix gets the same 40 years of experience behind the faders.

Atmos Mixing

For projects that call for immersive, spatial sound, we offer Dolby Atmos mixing, translating stereo or multitrack sessions into a full three-dimensional mix built for streaming, film, and next-generation music formats. Monitoring is handled through a 7.1.4 system built around 7 PoAcs Studio 100 speakers powered by Hypex NCore amplifiers, 4 Sony ceiling speakers, and 2 StudioPro subwoofers, all routed through a fully maxed-out Grace Design m908 monitor controller for precise, translatable spatial imaging.

Whether you're chasing vintage warmth, hybrid flexibility, rock-solid digital reliability, or the pristine detail of DSD, Studio Mozart has the format — and the engineering experience — to get it right.
